This is a very simple song that you can play in class when it is clean-up time. Even if there isn’t much to clean up, it’s a great song to play to transition into the next activity. When we play the song in class, all of the children understand it’s time to stop what they are doing, clean up, and get ready for the next activity.
You can make gestures for each line but the best way to use the song is simply to play it as you are actually cleaning up after an activity.
Lyrics
Clean up, clean up.
Everybody let's clean up.
Clean up, clean up.
Put your things away.
(four times)
Clean up! Clean up! Clean up! Put your things away.
Pick up your toys.
Pick up your books.
Pick up your shoes.
Put your things away.
Clean up, clean up.
Everybody let's clean up.
Clean up, clean up.
Put your things away.
(two times)
Activities
When using the song for the first time, you may want to demonstrate with a puppet cleaning up some blocks or other small items. At home, it’s an excellent song to play to encourage children to cleanup when they are finished playing. You could also sing together without the CD, when doing chores together around the house.
Soon you’ll notice that when you ask the kids to clean up, they’ll start singing and cleaning up happily.
